A pre-wedding shoot in Langkawi: seasons, photographers and what to plan
When the weather is usually driest, who offers pre-wedding and engagement shoots on Langkawi according to their own websites, how they price, and the questions to settle with your photographer and your resort.
When to shoot
MetMalaysia, Malaysia's meteorological department, describes the rainfall pattern for north-western Peninsular Malaysia, the region Langkawi sits in:
- Generally wettest: October to November (the main peak), and April to May (a smaller one).
- Generally driest: January to February (the main low), and June to July (a smaller one).
That's a regional pattern, not a guarantee for any day on Langkawi. Build a rain day into your plan whatever the month, and ask your photographer what their wet-weather plan is.
Light. Ask your photographer what time of day they would shoot, and why. Sunset times: not confirmed. We haven't found an official Malaysian source for sunset times by month, so we don't print them. Check the time for your date when you book, and plan the shoot to finish before the light goes.
Who offers pre-wedding shoots on Langkawi
These three say on their own websites that they shoot engagement or pre-wedding sessions on the island. We read their sites on 4 October 2026. We haven't contacted them, we have no arrangement with any of them, and this isn't a recommendation.
Gadis Events
A planner based in Langkawi that sells pre-wedding photoshoots in two forms:
- Shoot only: make-up and hair for the bride, two hours of photography at a location, transport, refreshments and help with outfits during the shoot, plus behind-the-scenes phone shots.
- Shoot with a stay: the same, plus two nights at Temple Tree Resort and dinner for two at Paloh, Temple Tree Resort.
Its terms say outdoor locations depend on the weather and that it discusses a Plan B when you book. Price: its page shows prices, but marks them valid until 30 June 2026. That date has passed, so we don't repeat them. Ask for a current quote.
Langkawi Weddings
A wedding photographer at langkawiweddings.com, "based in Malaysia who shoots regularly on the island", according to the contact page on its website. It offers engagement sessions "during your site visit to Langkawi". Price: not published. It says coverage "is quoted per date, per venue and per number of days".
The Langkawi photographer at elopetolangkawi.com
A photographer that describes itself as "based in Langkawi" and shoots engagement portraits as well as weddings. Its site also says, in Chinese, that it speaks Mandarin. Its booking form offers a full day, a half day or an hourly booking. Price: not published.
Permits and locations
Permits: not confirmed. We looked for an official page from Langkawi's or Kedah's authorities that says whether a private pre-wedding shoot needs a permit at a beach, a viewpoint or a forest area, and what it costs. We didn't find one, so we don't state a rule. Ask your photographer which locations they use and who gives permission for each, and ask any attraction's operator before you shoot on its grounds.
At your resort: not confirmed. No resort page we read says whether an outside photographer may shoot on its grounds, or for what fee. If your photographer isn't the resort's own, ask the resort first.
Questions for your photographer
- Have you shot on Langkawi before, and where?
- Is the price on your website current? What does it include: hours, edited photos, make-up, transport?
- Do you travel in, and what do travel and accommodation add to the price?
- Who arranges permission for each location, and resort access?
- What's the plan if it rains on the day, and can we move the shoot?
